My students need leveled readers to increase their literacy skills. Reading levels are very low. With new books on their level, students will be excited to practice!
Most of my students entered 1st grade with reading levels well below where they need to be. Very few of my kids have access to books out of school, so to be able to provide enriching literacy on their reading level would be immensely helpful in building their literacy skills.
My school is in a very low income area.
Most of the parents of my kids are not high school graduates, yet they are sending their children to our charter school in hopes that their children will get a better educational start than they did.
My students are encouraged to work hard, and dream big. By providing enlightening literature on their reading level, I hope to show them that there is a wonderful world out there waiting for them.
My Project
With the books requested from Donors Choose, my students will be able to read of places they have not even heard of, learn about friendship and helping others, and see sights that will encourage them to become lifelong learners.
The leveled libraries I am requesting will allow my students to be independent readers, thinkers, and learners. We will use the books for reading response activities, writing, comprehension, and even art projects.
My biggest desire for these books though is to be able to have books on each student's level that I can send home overnight with them so that they can read to their families. Nothing builds confidence more than sharing new reading skills.
When my students start seeing the progress they are making by reading at their own level, their confidence will soar.
Positive reading experiences breed the desire to read more and more each day.
Reading is crucial for any career, and my students will become stronger readers by having interesting, enriching books to read everyday in our classroom.
