Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Mr. Rogers said, "Play is often talked as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning."
My students have special needs and many of them are learning how to play with toys. We have facilitated play time to help teach my students how to imagine and engage.
My students are pre-k students with complex communication needs; some of them have Autism.
We are very lucky to be at a supportive school where they engage with typical peers daily. I have 9 students in my classroom: three girls and 6 boys. My students love exploring with their busy little hands. They enjoy toys that they can manipulate. My students love music time because they love the beat and they enjoy expressing themselves.
My Project
My students need activity scarves, play people that look like them, a marble run, and storytelling lap books. My students love to play withe marbles during centers, table top, and facilitated play time. We were lucky to get a used set as a donation, but I would really like to get a full-set so they can build, play, and learn. We also have music time in my classroom daily. This is their favorite time of day. It's fun and they are learning so much.
This donation will benefit my students and many to come.
Music and movement is an important foundation in pre-K standards and it is something that all children enjoy. The marbles run is something that every student enjoys and learns from. Having these new tools will promote learning through play and exploration.
