Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My kids need your support! We are a kindergarten class in an urban school district. Their school is in an inner city, and the children all qualify for free lunch. My class consists of 7 special education students and 8 general education students. The special education students have a range of difficulties, including being communication impaired.
Despite the academic and economic challenges my students face they are enthusiastic, kind, and love to learn.
The children in my classroom come from disadvantaged households, and I often purchase classroom supplies and snacks to support them.
My Project
One of the biggest challenges in kindergarten is keeping students focused and on task so they can do their best. This becomes extra challenging when a class is mixed with special education students who have difficulty focusing due to their classification.
These items will help my children achieve independence and reduce distractions during small group instruction.
My aim is to incorporate headphones in the listening center so the children can focus on learning games in the technology center. I would also like to use color coded paper trays so that the children can easily access their small group learning materials and become more independent.
