Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have been blessed with 22 curious, eager, and hardworking Kindergartners. Our school is a Title I magnet school in an urban setting where over 60 percent of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. My students come from diverse backgrounds, economic situations, and family dynamics.
Half of my class come from homes where English is not their first language, and many are not exposed to the English language outside of the school setting.
However, my students come to school each and every day ready to learn, work hard and actively participate in all subject areas. Simply put, they enjoy the wonders of learning!
My Project
If you walked into our classroom, at any given time, you would see students working independently as well as in cooperative small groups. During this time my students are encouraged to express their learning through various activities such as writing and illustrating, using reusable games, hands on activities and arts and crafts.
My students go through a lot of basic supplies and it's that time of year when our classroom supplies need to be restocked.
To create differentiated activities readily available at a moments notice, we are requesting binders and sheet protectors. This would keep materials organized and accessible to all students. The dry erase markers and laminating sheets would be helpful to create reusable activities that can be easily wiped clean after each use. Sticky notes and sentence strips are always fun to use during guided reading. New pocket folders and paper clips would help keep student writing samples organized. My students would love a shapes and colors bingo and short vowels game to add more fun activities to our math and phonics centers.
