My Students

I teach full-day kindergarten at a suburban Title 1 public elementary school in Murray, Utah. In my district, full-day kindergarten is considered an intervention because students qualify for full-day kindergarten by testing below average on the state kindergarten entry test (the KEEP test). Each year, the majority of my class is considered "At-Risk" and they begin kindergarten below the average incoming kindergartener. I have several English Language Learners each year (this year, I have 6), and usually, at least 15-20% of my class is on IEPs. Since I teach at a Title 1 school, many of my students are also economically disadvantaged.

My students are so excited about learning and love engaging, hands-on activities.

They love problem-solving, centers, and active learning. I try to plan lessons that allow them as much hands-on learning as possible since I know they aren't getting many of these experiences at home. I love to see the excitement a student feels when they learn a new skill!

My Project

My students have really suffered because of the pandemic. Many of them missed out on preschool, and our activities at school have been greatly altered. I want to give my students as normal of a school experience as possible and catch them up on the learning they missed due to the pandemic.

This project will help my students have fun, hands-on learning experiences that they've missed out on the past few years.

It will also help them develop their fine motor skills. Thank you for your help and support!
