My students need scaffolding materials for play & learning centers-important for beginning academic success. We also need seating, such as bean bags and a couch, for centers.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in one of the lowest achieving schools in our district in a low economy area. Kindergarten is where academic success beings. The materials requested are necessary to help make learning fun and engaging while in a safe and comforting learning environment.
Our school is one of the lowest achieving schools in our district.
My students come from low income status households. The population at our school is completely diverse with almost exclusively African-American and Hispanic students (99%). Many students in my class are non-English speakers/English language learners. Our school offers support to struggling families such as free breakfast and lunch programs and parent workshops. Coming to school often is the best part of my students' days. Kindergarten is, for many of my students, their first exposure to structured education and needs to be fun as well preparing them academically to stay in school. Most have not been to preschool.
My Project
I have requested bean bags and a little sofa with support materials to create comforting and interesting learning centers. Many of my students do not have this sort of environment in their own homes. Creating safe and friendly classroom areas will instill in them that, no matter what, their classroom demonstrates that life can be calm, supportive, comfortable and caring. These donations will be a blessing and a true learning experience for my students and our classroom.
Another example: "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom". Why this book? It's got a catchy little tune that helps the students learn and recognize the letters of the alphabet. I am seeking some additional resources which will help my students learn and play to learn in different ways. The Chicka Chicka Boom Boom tree will be fun for the students to use while we are reading the book.
My project is important to show my students that there are people out in the world who truly care about them and their learning experience.
I intend to share with my students who and how these wonderful donations have reached our classroom. I believe that if they know that people who don't even know them want to help will instill in them the idea that people are, indeed, kind and caring and that when they grow up and are successful, they, too, can give back to community.
