My students need a working listening center, with a CD player and a class set of wireless headphones, so that they can enjoy listening to stories that they cannot read on their own.
This project expired on February 13, 2012.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
Try to think back to a time when you could not read and enjoy stories on your own. I have a large supply of books on tape/CD for my students' captive ears but not a working listening center to play them in.
My students come from low income families and attend school in a district where funds for new materials are at a bare minimum.
They are not exposed to many literacy experiences at home and should be able to have those opportunities when they come to Kindergarten.
This listening center will allow my students the opportunity to have exposure to a wide variety of literacy experiences. They will be able to hear an authentic reader bring a story to life. The students will also begin developing independence as they engage in Literacy Center activities.
Supporting this project will put literacy in the hands (and ears) of many young learners who are eager to hear and experience the wide world that stories can show them.
My students are ready and waiting for these new experiences.
