I am a librarian in a dynamic K-2 elementary school. As the school librarian, I have the opportunity to teach all of the students that walk through the doors of our school. My students are motivated and eager to learn. I do my best to provide them with the materials they need to grow into avid readers and writers.
My students are an amazingly diverse group of little scholars who have a thirst for learning.
They deserve nothing but the best there is to offer. I want to ensure that my students become life-long readers, writers, and problem solvers.
My Project
The students in my school need some new and engaging read alouds to listen to during our weekly library lessons. These are books that will be displayed on the bookshelves with matching stuffed animals on display racks. Creating a warm, welcoming environment will help to set the tone in the library.
It's amazing what a little ambiance can do to motivate students to read.
I will be able to switch the books that are displayed so as to continually spark students' interests with new books. These books are high-quality texts that students truly enjoy reading. They fly off the shelves in the library and the additional copies will really help to get books into students' hands. The coordinating stuffed animals will be a great way to draw students' attention to these great books!
With limited funds, it is a challenge to replace "loved" books with new ones. Students should not have to be limited to selecting books that are outdated and literally falling apart at the seams. A project like this will have an immediate impact on my entire school and will truly promote a love for reading across the building!
