My students need small packs of Legos to use in the classroom as tinker tools and as an early finisher choice.

I teach kindergarten at our district's new Math, Science, and Technology Magnet. Our wonderful students come from a variety of backgrounds and languages, but they all strive to meet the challenges of life with smiles on their faces.
I want my students to thrive in a multi-sensory environment where they have lots of fun learning.
Like so many in our nation, the majority of our young learners come from struggling households, but school is a place where we endeavor to provide all students with the opportunities to become community leaders. My goal is to enrich classroom lessons by providing interactive and fun activities. I hope to not only prepare children to be lifelong learners, but also provide them with the life skills that will allow them to one day be productive citizens in our society.
My kindergarteners need access to Legos to practice foundational engineering skills. With these hands-on materials they will develop their fine motor skills, advance their ability to problem-solve, and further their STEM skills in the classroom.
My students love the thrill of tinkering with Legos and successfully creating structures is such a confidence booster!
Not only will these Lego sets inspire creativity and confidence, they will also help students become better writers by building up the muscles in their hands.
Each morning students will have the opportunity to begin creating as soon as they get their belongings put away, while I take care of the everyday details such as attendance and lunch counts. With funding, I would be able to add Lego building as an option, along with playdough, tangrams, free-choice reading, journaling, and drawing. Throughout the day students finish work at different rates and those that finish early need quality activities to keep them occupied and learning while their friends are still working. Legos are the perfect early-finisher activity.
