This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am honored to teach a class of 24 amazing first-grade students in a diverse, Title I community located in the inner-city. It is in one of the country's largest cities where all students receive free breakfast and lunch. They represent many beautiful ethnicities and come to school with a love for learning, ready to show others what they've learned.

During this pandemic, I am eager to provide them with meaningful instruction and needed resources to support their learning.

Despite our many challenges, my little learners truly enjoy our time together. They have remained 100% resilient.

My Project

It's time to begin learning the meaning of place value in first grade. These math tools will make it a bit easier for my little learners to grasp an important and difficult concept to understand. They will be able to use them in hands-on activities with me during guided instruction and independent practice. I am requesting enough place value disks, so I may make individual sets of ones, tens, and hundreds for each of my little learners. The rest of the math tools will be utilized during guided math instruction throughout the year. Because they are magnetic, I can utilize them on our magnetic white boards for all to see during our lessons.

These place value math tools will be used daily in our classroom.
