My Students

My students are exceptional kindergarten learners with varying degrees of physical, intellectual, and sensory impairments. They are active, imaginative, and full of life. They have many struggles throughout the school day, but they also have many successes.

My students struggle to identify and regulate their emotions independently.

They may also become overstimulated and would benefit tremendously from an area in the classroom where they can regulate their emotions and escape sensory overload.

My Project

Each school day I work to guide my young learners in identifying, understanding, and processing their emotions. At such a young age, this process can be complicated and difficult for them. Some of our learners have additional developmental delays that make this process even more complex.

Having a specific area that is geared to the regulation of emotion, is crucial to this process.

This area will allow students to apply the skills they have been taught and, eventually, begin to independently identify when to utilize this area and regulate their own emotions. These skills are crucial not only in the classroom but in their personal lives as well.
