I am an elementary school classroom teacher in a Title I (95+% students living in homes with family income under the poverty level) urban school district in Northern California. Our neighborhood is one that is a first stop for newcomers to our country. They are highly desirous in getting their children to learn.

Unfortunately, Music and art are two of the programs that are usually cut when school district budgets do not balance. Students in my classroom and those that I work with in an after school program are excited when music class is on the schedule.

Little Kids Rock is an organization that promotes music education in public school. In conjunction with our after school program, this has given me the opportunity to teach latch-key students of these low income families. The students really want to have an opportunity to participate in a music program. The four guitars and four mandolins will provide my students the pride of owning and joy of caring for their own instrument. They will utilize it every day for learning and practicing.

The students I work with in the after school program are highly motivated when it comes to practicing and using their guitars. They need their own instruments to learn and practice at home and in school. Your help will ensure that my students will be provided with an instrument that they will treasure. With this instrument, each one of my student will be able to learn a lifetime skill which they can use for their own enjoyment and even share.
