My students are fun, compassionate, and curious young children. When they arrive at school in the morning, they race to the schedule, excited to find out what is on the agenda for the day.
Every day is fresh, new, and exciting!
Our school is one of the most diverse in the district, and is located in a tight-knit community in the heart of San Francisco. Many of my students' cousins, parents, and even grandparents have attended our school!
The community bond shows through as students giggle, play, and learn together throughout the day.
My Project
It is predicted that the workplace will be an entirely different place by the time my kindergarteners graduate. We are starting to see signs of this already in nearby Silicon Valley.
An additional iPad in my classroom will allow students to explore The Four C's of 21st Century Learning: Critical thinking, Communication, Collaboration, and Creativity.
Students will learn to use an iPad to take photos of their work and add them to a digital portfolio. They can add audio to share their learning and reflections with peers and parents. They will learn to use tools such as Google MyMaps to share their differing perspectives of our school neighborhood. They will also learn to use kid-friendly research tools to explore STEM ideas and other topics of choice.
Preparing children for future success requires that teachers open up space for creativity and innovation in our classrooms each and every school day. By adding an additional iPad to our small collection, I hope to be able to do just that.
