My Students

My students love good stories! I teach literacy to 3rd-5th graders at Lamoni Elementary School. One of their favorite things about my class, is when we read books together. We have book clubs and books we read as a whole class. They are so captivated, you can hear a pin drop.

Cliffhangers are the worst for them!

They hate it when I say, “and that’s where we are going to stop!” Audible groans spread across the classroom. They want me to keep reading! I absolutely love the look on their faces when they figure out a themes twist, or beg to know if there is a sequel when the book comes to an end.

My Project

A few years ago, our Area Education Agency had a tornado rip through their office, destroying many of their novel sets. Every year, up until that time, I checked out Little House in the Big Woods and read it to my classes. Unfortunately, the books were destroyed and never replaced. I would like to introduce my class to this beloved book and author, and also to the whole series! In the past, I taught a unit on Pioneers, and included cross curriculum actives. I am requesting a class set of 28 books.
