Our 3 and 4 years old students come to school eager and ready to learn. Their day is packed full of engaging, fun activities including: whole and small group, story time, choice time, outside, crafts, and music.
"Head Start is a federally-funded educational program for eligible 3- and 4-year-old children.
This is the first time many students are introduced to the concept of letters, letter sounds, shapes and numbers. In addition to math, reading, science, and art skills, students are taught about cooperation, problem solving, and responsibility." By the end of our program, our goal is that students are kindergarten ready.
My Project
Each morning, our students come into our classroom, write their names, then pick an educational activity to do. Students can choose to do an activity independently, or with a peer. Students work on letters, numbers and counting, and fine motor skills. Student have fun and learn by doing different hands-on activities.
These materials would be a great addition to our classroom and would allow us to keep our mornings and small groups engaging.
These materials will also be used during our daily small groups. Students are divided into two groups that allow us to customize the activities we are doing based on the needs of each student in the group.
One activity our students enjoy doing is building letters with popsicle sticks. We discuss what letters we can and can’t make with the sticks. The letter construction set and magnetic letter pieces will allow us to build all of the letters and learn letter names and sounds. The letter stamps will reinforce letter names. The alphabet wooden lacing cards will also help us with learning letters while also improving our fine motor skills.
The cardstock, laminating pouches and Velcro dots will be used to print and laminate letter and math games. They will also be used to create file folder games for the students to match upper and lowercase letters, one-to-one correspondence and beginning sound activities.
All of these materials will be used to help us become kindergarten ready.
