My students need leveled books for guided reading instruction and to fill their book bags. Each child needs an average of 10 books on their reading level per week.
"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more things that you learn, the more places you'll go." - Dr. Seuss
Reading is one of the most important skills learned in school. I have the task of instilling the love of reading in my students.
I teach a diverse population of children from many different economic backgrounds.
Some come with a wealth of knowledge and experiences while others come without a backpack and school supplies. Books are treasures not everyone in my school has access to on a daily basis.
My Project
Reading instruction happens all day in a Kindergarten class. Our reading block consists of independent reading, partner reading, and guided reading. These are no easy task without the proper tools. My students need an average of 10 books on their reading level a week. With a class of 23 that is a large task. While I do have many books in our class library a larger selection is beneficial.
Please help my students have many books on their reading levels to build skill and confidence in order to become lifelong readers.
As a child I remember going through a phase of not ever wanting to put my books down. I want my Kindergartners to leave me with that love and thirst for reading.
