Help me give my students hands-on experiences to extend and enrich their learning. Aside from the FUN, items like the snap-together letter blocks and magnetic sound boards will allow my students to independently explore early learning concepts.
The most incredible thing about my Developmental Kindergarten students is the fact that they are all wonderfully unique. Some are energetic and ready to tackle whatever life throws their way. Some are shy and watch from the sidelines. Some are a mix of both. The one thing that is the same about all of my students is their willingness, with varying amounts of support and encouragement, to play, explore, touch, experiment, and interact with the world around them.
No matter their background or ability level, the one thing that all of my students have in common is the desire to explore through hands-on learning opportunities.
I strive to bring all the concepts that I teach to life through hands-on experiences for my students. There is nothing they love more than to explore letters, sounds, numbers, and stories through interactive play. There is nothing I love more than to watch and listen in to the connections they are making and the excitement they feel.
My Project
Developmental Kindergarten is a unique experience that provides students an extra year to successfully transition to Kindergarten. My students will be given the gift of another year to develop their skills in phonological awareness, alphabetic principle, and fine and gross motor development. In addition, they will be provided countless opportunities to grow socially and emotionally.
Aside from what the research says about hands-on experiences as a developmentally appropriate practice for early learning, these materials will also provide hours and hours of fun and engaging learning that will solidify concepts taught in class.
After I teach the students about letters, sounds, and numbers, these materials will be used to allow them to independently practice and reinforce their new learning. Many of these high-quality tools are self-checking, which allows even the most shy students to take risks as they explore and learn.
When I picture these tools in use, I see a classroom that is alive and buzzing as students travel to different centers that reinforce and even extend their thinking. Groups of students collaborate to solve the unique challenges each of these materials provides, while others work independently and at their own pace. Letters, sounds, and numbers have never been more fun!
