Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students are amazing and bring so much to their classrooms every day. Our students are all on the autism spectrum and many have very unique needs that require individualized school programming. A lot of them have a lot of sensory needs and need an area where they can release some of that built up energy.
Without an area to be able to release and meet sensory needs, our students have a more difficult time focusing on activities and regulating their behaviors.
Students need areas to run, bounce, balance, throw, and feel pressure. Some students have occupational therapy as one of their services so they require materials to be able to work on their gross and fine motor skills.
My Project
A lot of the students in my classroom are not only amazing little preschoolers but some of them also have disabilities. These disabilities range from having difficulty communicating to issues with sitting still or playing with friends. We need materials that help kids with sensory challenges so they can feel confident and successful while accessing the curriculum in their preschool classroom.
We do a lot of sensory play and fine motor so it’s great to have various materials for the kids to try out to build those fine motor muscles such as with the sorting activities or the sand toys.
Some of the kiddos even benefit from their own wiggle cushion.
