Creative, motivated, curious, and hilarious are just a few of the words I would use to describe my wonderful class of second graders. My students come from an extremely diverse area of our state. We are a very large Title I school, in a diverse military area, in one of the biggest counties in our state. I believe that their diverse backgrounds make our classroom exciting and keep me on my toes. I teach my kids every day to choose kindness and courage in their daily lives, as well as to push themselves to do their absolute best.
My students come in every single day with new questions about the world, near and far.
Expectations at our school are incredibly high, and the results are worth it! We pride ourselves in a wonderful and welcoming community that encourages students to go above and beyond what they believe they can achieve.
My Project
Science, technology, engineering, and math are areas where many students struggle. The drive to explore in these areas is often not nurtured in the younger grades with the emphasis being on reading and comprehension. I believe that encouraging students to find their strengths in STEM can enable them to be critical thinkers in all areas.
My students are naturally curious and love to explore and create as engineers in our classroom.
The supplies that this project would supply would give them the technology to support this exploration as well as new and exciting STEM materials to learn with in class. The stand can be used for green screen projects, and the headphone splitters help us share computers and work in groups. The sphero’s will help my students learn basic coding. We can use the magniblox, brain flakes, and Picasso tiles to explore creating and learning how to build. Block’s Rock! is a game that will help my students learn to follow a 3D image to build and will strengthen their problem solving skills. Buzzers help us utilize technology for review games and allow the students to create their own games to review and use in class!
These materials will help my students become young engineers now, and encourage them to continue the skills they learn in the future!
