My students are first graders who are from middle to lower income families. We are from a Title I, inner city school, where materials are often hard to come by. This, however, does not stop my students from loving to learn new things every day.
I am so lucky to have such a caring and imaginative group of students.
My students are always willing to work together to help their fellow classmates. My goal this year is to continue to grow their love of learning and their love of school, to make them even more successful in the future.
My Project
We're asking for a listening center for our classroom so that students can have the chance to listen to stories being read to them during center time. Research-based best practices suggest following along to stories read-aloud greatly improves students' reading as it models fluency, accuracy, and expression at a steady rate. These components are crucial to engaging students in the adventures of texts and makes them better readers!
Reading aloud to my students is one of my favorite things to do in the classroom!
However, our whole class read alouds are only a small part of our day. A listening center in our classroom will allow them to use their imaginations, travel along with the characters in their favorite books, and practice reading skills and strategies without realizing it. A listening center will develop their reading level, push them to grade level texts, and set them on a path for future success as their love of reading will soar!
