My students need a new listening center to work on literacy during our Daily 5 rotations. The CD and Cassette player with Bluetooth is designed for young children so they can independently manage listening to stories.
I teach in a small Title One school with students from a variety of economic backgrounds. More than a third of my students come from high poverty homes. Our district is in our third year of implementing the Comprehensive Literacy Model Reading Framework by Linda Dorn and Carla Soffos. As a model classroom for this framework, I have implemented a variety of literacy methods into my literacy instruction.

My Project
Our classroom needs a new CD/Cassette player and a place to safely store our listening center materials such as books and headphones. Our current player frequently breaks causing disruption in our learning. Each day my students rotate through a variety of literacy areas to work on building important foundational skills.
A new listening center will be used daily by all of my students.
They will be able to independently manage the materials to make the best use of instructional time. This CD/Cassette player is made for young learners and the small shelf to hold the materials will make their time listening to stories and following along with books more successful. Students will use the listening center in small groups in during our literacy block. The Birch Listening Center will hold the CD/Cassette Player as well as headphones that we already have in our classroom. The Listening Center will also hold the book(s) and tapes or CD the students will listen to. In their small groups, students will start and stop the audio that accompanies the books as they listen to the story read to them. This activity builds literacy skills as students listen to engaging stories.
