This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is in an inner city with predominantly low-income students. All of our students are on free meal plans. Many receive supplies and backpacks through grants or generous donations made by members of the community. I have received a few great projects through Donorschoose.org which have greatly contributed to increasing the motivation to learn in my students. We aim to teach our learners to be active, hard-working, and challenge seekers who are also kind and considerate human beings. I am confident that these students will someday make a positive impact and contribute back to our community.
My Project
Our students received some great playground equipment recently. I underestimated the amount of children who wanted to play ball on the playground. I ordered some balls that were for smaller hands which is great for Kindergarten. Our first and second graders could use some larger ones. This project will give more kids more equipment to engage in team play and sports on the playground at recess. These materials will continue to foster exercise while encouraging children to play cooperatively together. The children loved the last project and are using the materials even inside on the cold, snowy days. This equipment is great and versatile for outdoor, as well as indoor use.
