My Students
I teach an amazing group of 25 first graders in rural Kentucky. My students enter the classroom each morning excited to see what new activities we have planned. The students love to try new activities and are always willing to give their best.
One hundred percent of the students at our school receive free breakfast and lunch. My students come from various socioeconomic backgrounds, and many of them only have access to technology at school. Despite these hardships, my students are eager to use technology, explore and be successful.
My Project
I am currently trying to get new books to update our classroom library to use during literacy centers. I have selected a collection of Little Critter books because these are books that most first grade students love to read. Little Critter books cover a variety of topics including holidays, family and friends, emotional issues, and school.
Interesting books are key in keeping students engaged in reading activities. I feel that this collection of books will have something that will hold the interest of every student. My students will use these Little Critter books daily for comprehension activities and will take an accelerated reader test over each book. We will also complete writing activities to go along with each book.
