My classes just keep growing. When given a chance to learn by doing instead of sitting in a classroom listening to a lecture, what student does want to do that.
When given an opportunity for unique learning experiences, my students jump at the chance.
I have more students interested in my computer coding class than I have materials. What a great problem to have! In my classroom, students feel less restricted by the norms of a traditional room. They are becoming more and more comfortable in owning and directing their learning.
My Project
My class size has grown from 18 to 43 students next year. Students are seeking out classes that offer hands-on learning. As a jump start class before going to advanced computer coding, students learn how to code using Microbits. Starting small with simple coding techniques students move to more complicated computer coding such as python and javascript at their own speed.
By adding an additional laptop and more Microbits, my students won't have to wait their turn but can work collaboratively while exploring the world of coding.
Using the simple MakeCode blocks students can connect the complex language of computer coding to what it actually means. These devices also allow differentiation in each class where students can work at their own pace to completely understand the concepts. My students will love getting their hands on a new laptop and these Microbits.
