Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Coming into kindergarten, our students are often very far behind. They have a lot of obstacles to overcome including lack of school knowledge and a language barrier. With love, engagement, and high expectations, they will leave knowing they have what it takes to conquer the world.
My students are part of a school that is defeating all odds.
The students from my school are 99% Hispanic with most of the kindergartners coming to school speaking only Spanish. The school is Title I with a free and reduced-price lunch rate of 99%. The students come from a very poor area. Many of these students' parents only speak Spanish, and because of that, they are unable to help their children in their studies. They are kindergarten students who at five and six years old are willing to give everything they have to further their education without allowing their circumstances to hinder their dreams.
My Project
I would love to get a bunch of lower leveled books for my students. I would love a new pencil sharpener so that I can quickly get new pencils in my students hand. The positional words game I have requested will extremely help my student's English vocabulary.
I'd love to replenish my library with readers for my beginning readers.
I have many in black and white but I'd love to have books in color. This year I gave away a lot of books to the students so that they could practice at home and many books were lost. I'd love to be able to get many new books in their little hands.
