Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. This year especially, I know that they are going through so much more that is completely out of their control. Having experienced Hurricane Harvey, many of them are still out of their homes.
My students need a leveled reading library.
I would like for my students to have the opportunity to read at their own reading level without having to struggle and get frustrated with not knowing.
My Project
My students need a leveled library in the classroom.
So many students get frustrated when reading because they are just learning how to read that we need a leveled library to ease their frustration and be able to provide them with books that are at their reading level.
Kids often get discouraged when they don't know how to read and more often than not, they pick up a book and don't even attempt to read it. However, if the book had words on their reading level they would most likely become more engaged. If they knew a couple of words on the pages they would feel more comfortable picking the book up. This is why I would like to give these kids the opportunity to do just that. To have the books that are at their reading level accessible to them in the classroom. We do not need to give them excuses and let us make some little book worms out of them!
