This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Most students love PE...but think of how much more exciting it can be by adding technology. Better yet, think of the academic skills and the background knowledge that can by incorporated and introduced by adding technology to PE class.
I teach in the largest of 15 elementary schools in my district.
I see over 750 monolingual and bilingual K-5 students twice a week. 85% of the students in our school receive free and reduced lunch. They come from unique and diverse home situations. That doesn't stop us teachers from teaching and the students from learning.
Our students look forward to coming to PE class twice a week and I continue to find new and exciting ways to keep them physically active.
My Project
With the addition of these technology upgrades, I will be able to utilize some existing technology to increase learning and physical activity in the gym. With the new rigorous nationwide Common Core standards that are being introduced, I am looking to find new ways to integrate literacy and math into PE class. If I am able to project various interactive reading and math games, I will be able to integrate beneficial learning while keeping the students physically active. Having this wireless technology, I will also be able to circulate the gym and help motivate the students during the activity. I will be able to engage the students in learning core curriculum through ways that are simply not possible in the regular classroom.
Please join me in helping every student in my school continue to be physically active in PE while increasing their knowledge in core academic areas at the same time.
This small addition will provide countless opportunities of increased learning for hundreds of students.
