Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Pre-K students are four and five year of age, who are excited to have their first school experience. They are part of a Title I, inner-city school located within a community with an economically disadvantaged population. Our school provides free breakfast and lunch for the students.
Most of the families have a first language other than English, and our program is designed to immerse the students in English and prepare them for kindergarten.
The desire for the students to do well academically is a goal that is shared through our school community. The parents, students, and staff all work together to build a true sense that education is important.
My Project
Since my students are prekindergartners and are beginning to learn how to identify letters and develop crucial literacy skills, I want to give them large crayons. These are easy for them to grasp and allow them to respond to text in a creative way.
I want my students to explore their creativity through the world of art.
We use crayons on a daily basis, and as you may know, they wear down very quickly. My students will be using the crayons to make creative presentations and express their thinking in a way that can easily be displayed and presented afterwards. Students will gain self-confidence as they share their drawings and stories while their peers listen to them. We also need, colored tissue paper to add details to our masterpieces.
Your donation will improve my classroom in many ways. You will provide my students with endless opportunities to become empowered through art. They will have the amazing opportunity to get to use materials to show their thinking. Empowering students through art is extremely important, especially for language learners, and these materials will allow all my students to develop a new sense of confidence.
