As a Special Education Social Studies teacher, my students exemplify diversity.
From Kindergarten to 5th grade, these students have many different learning styles stemming from a variety of diagnosis including ADHD, Autism, learning disabilities, Emotional, Downs Syndrome, Williams Syndrome, Rhett Dyndrome, Phylenan McDermott Syndrome, and more.
They have equally diverse nationalities, races, and religions.
Most importantly, they have a variety of interests, from Barbie Dolls to Legos, from Minecraft to Youtube, from visual arts to dance, from toy cars to Nascar.
They all share an excitement for learning about Social Studies as I thrive to bring History and Culture alive and interesting to them all.
As a Social Studies teacher who travels from classroom to classroom, a laptop would be able to move with me and be available for ALL my students. The upper grade students will be able to look up current events, research articles and events. The lower grades will benefit as we use it together to view the world in real time, listen to songs, watch educational videos and more. The students would be able to choose a place on the globe and then research it on the computer. Using the United States as our starting point, together we could travel to different states, countries and continents. The laptop would allow them to work in groups or individually and enable me to travel from class to class.
