Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students have a wide variety of instructional needs. Some of the students are gifted and of high ability, while many others need help with English and individualized instruction. We are a high-poverty middle school in a desert community, and 100% of students receive free breakfasts and lunches. Even though our students are needy, they are eager to work hard and try new things in school.

My students need Scholastic StoryWorks magazine to give them a variety of literature that can be theirs to take home.

My Project

My students need the inspiration to have a love of reading. Most of them do not have reading or writing materials in their homes and their activities outside of school do not involve reading. They need the to have reading materials of their own at home.

By giving each of my students a Scholastic Storyworks magazine, they will have engaging literature activities to work on at home.

The magazine is filled with "impactful lessons and multigenre texts" that my students need to work on outside of school. This resource has a great mixture of timely topics, fiction and nonfiction stories, and articles to promote opinion-writing - all things to enhance our ELA classroom.
