My 27 students need a class set Toni Morrison's novel "Song of Solomon".

Class is very hands-on. Students act out scenes from classic literature, translate passages into modern language, and vote for the text they would most like to read from a list of titles.
My students are amazing!
They are extremely hard-working and thoughtful. They are the Advanced Placement Literature class, and they are desperate to read something current! The class is composed of 25 students in a school of roughly 1500. These young people are truly exceptional. The school is an at-risk, inner-city high school on the South Side of Chicago. These students are great readers, but they do not have handy access to literature or regular encouragement to keep reading.
My students need a class set Toni Morrison's novel Song of Solomon. By reading, annotating, analyzing, discussing, and writing about Toni Morrison's novel Song of Solomon, my students will have an opportunity to engage in a masterwork of literature that is contemporary and addresses themes and motifs relevant to their daily lives. Students will be permitted to keep their copy of this incredible novel to take with them to college.
These books will increase the students' interest in reading literature of very high difficulty.
Since the novel follows the teenage years of a young black man, the students are excited to dive into the book. I want the students to read Song of Solomon because they will fall in love with it. Despite its difficulty, this book will help these young people discover their own love of literature while they explore their own developing identities.
