My students need class sets of Bud, Not Buddy, Number the Stars and Because of Winn-Dixie so that we can read them whole group and in small group reading. The three books that I picked will allow us to have well thought out discussion in the classroom.
My students are wonderful and hardworking. Majority of them come to school with a smile on their face excited to see one another and work hard. Most of them come from families that live in poverty with parents who are not able to fully support them emotionally and academically at home. I do my best to give them all the attention they crave and make sure that they feel safe and loved while in our classroom. In our classroom, we are like a family and strive to treat each other in that way.
One of my teaching dreams is to have my class all read the same book and be able to reflect together. We need class sets of Bud, Not Buddy, Number the Stars and Because of Winn-Dixie so that we can read them whole group and in small group reading. My classroom does not have access to whole class sets of novels and therefore we do not get to read books as a class unless I am reading them.
I believe it is a great academic activity when all students can read and reflect on the same literature.
If I were to have the access to novel sets my students could meet in small groups as well as large groups to discuss the novels. I am so excited for my students to have this experience!
