My school believes that every student should be given the chance to take academic risks. We offer multiple college and career preparatory programs, coming alongside all of our students in their endeavor to graduate high school and be prepared for life beyond our walls. With an 80% free and reduced lunch rate and with 80% being English language learners, my students face challenges with courage, heart, and commitment to the future.
Representing a variety of cultures and backgrounds, my classroom could truly be called an international endeavor.
Throughout my course, I want them to experience a variety of perspectives, opinions, and ideas. During our two years together we debate, reflect, and examine the world around us through the eyes of diverse authors. My students inspire me, motivate me, and teach me. Every. Single. Day.
Courageous risk-takers. Those words describe my students the best. During their last two years of high school, they have chosen to take on the challenges of an international college preparatory program. For many of them, English is their second language, but that does not stop them from engaging with challenging, powerful, and nuanced texts.
These texts set my students up for success during the final semester of their senior year as they prepare for their international exams.
Students find the content, writing style, and overarching themes to be relatable and applicable to their own lives, their communities, and the world. Help me help my students engage with literature that is unexpected and profound, this school year and beyond.
