This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a coteacher in two full inclusion second grade classrooms. Our students with and without disabilities enjoy the support and attention of a whole team of specialists including teacher assistants, behavioral aides, and speech therapists. It is a wonderfully vibrant community!

My students love learning together and learning from each other.

We bring out each others' strengths and help one another so that they can all be happy, growing children. To better support their learning, we need the necessary resources to support all students.

My Project

Ethnic Studies incorporates culturally relevant, social justice, community responsive and other pedagogical approaches with a focus on literacy and critical thinking skills.

A growing body of research from education scholars shows that an Ethnic Studies pedagogy taught at the K-12 level exposes students to an empowering and academically rigorous curriculum.

This curriculum has proven to have positive academic and social benefits to students of all races and ethnicities. This project provides literature that will be used in Ethnic Studies units and lessons for our classroom so that we may teach our students to be independent problem solvers and agents of social justice. We can do this through an ethnic studies curriculum that teaches them about their culture and themselves.
