My students need 45 literature books to help them learn about character development: honesty, caring, responsibility, cooperation, and living peacefully.

Today it is not enough to teach the three R's. We must help our children learn good morals and values. Character development through literature is a wonderful way to teach children.
My wonderful second graders come from an urban area.
For whatever reason, today's society seems to need extra help in learning good morals and values. The teachers, who are a major constant in the lives of the students, are now being asked to help students learn appropriate social skills. In my classroom, many, if not all, of my students would greatly benefit from character development lessons.
A lot of inner-city students who attend the school where I teach have difficulty expressing their feelings appropriately. Some students need help learning the difference between right and wrong and making good choices. In teaching character development, students will learn about being caring, honest, respectful, and responsible. They will learn to accept other people's differences and learn about manners. All of these values will help my students lead better lives, and it is hoped they will grow up to be caring, productive citizens who give back to their community.
Many students in urban areas need guidance from their teachers to learn appropriate morals and values.
Character development using literature is a wonderful way to increase their understanding of how to be good citizens. Your donation will allow my classroom to have books which will help students learn about honesty, caring, responsibility, respect, manners, and getting along with others.
