Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Intelligent, hardworking and ambitious is the least I can say about my fifth grade, dual language students! My class consists of 26 students, ten who are English learners and three newcomers to the country. They never fail to amaze me with their capabilities and dedication to succeed. They all care about one another and assure that every student feels welcomed and included in the classroom, regardless of all the obstacles distance learning has brought to many!
My Project
To challenge my students, I started to implement literature circles in my classroom.
Literature circles allow students to talk about a book, build conversations with their peers, think critically about novel questions, take ownership, and deepen their understanding of books.
In this project, I am requesting novels that my students would enjoy, both in English and Spanish. These book sets will help my students become critical readers and use their strengthens and skills to prepare for book discussions. I look forward to the hearing the great discussions these novels will bring in our literature circles!
