My students need The Time Thief, The Lightning Thief, Wrinkle in Time, and other books for our literature circles. We are asking for books ranging from 4th grade to 7th grade reading levels.
A challenge that I have in my classroom is to get everyone reading at a 5th grade reading level. I would love to have books that my students enjoy to read and would never want to put down.
I am working in a small farming town.
I am a teacher of 20, 5th grade students. We are in a K-12 building and share a library with the community. I think that because we do this, it is hard to check out books and get the books necessary for my classroom.
I have to ask the state for books a lot of the time, but they come late, or some of the time I am unable to check out. It would be a blessing for us to have our very own supply of books in our classroom.
My Project
In our classroom my students are always asking me what new books I have and what books I would recommend. I would like to start Literature Circles, so that I can broaden the types of books that they are exposed to in 5th grade and in the future. Hopefully, with new books they will have more exposure.
This project will make a difference in my classroom by allowing my students to have their own classroom library designed for literature circles.
This would allow them to be exposed to different types of literature (fiction, non-fiction, biography, etc.) that they would not typically choose to read independently.
