I work in a title 1 school in Georgia. We are a brand new school in this cluster (we didn't even show up on this site!). We service kids from all different walks of life. We are a tech-driven school that relies on a literary cornerstone. My students are special. They are all on different levels, and that is part of what makes them beautiful.
Every kid that attends our school decided to come here.
We are a choice school, and that makes the relationship we have with our students stronger. They have a desire to learn and a passion for doing more. I know that reading (and book club) are essential to their lifelong success.
My Project
Working at a STEM school, we know that many of our students would rather set themselves on fire than read a book. With this in mind, our language arts department wants to integrate student choice by providing novels for literature circles. Students will be able to select a novel from a list of 5-6 options in order to engage in discussion and analysis with their peers. By giving students choice in their reading, we are giving them ownership of their education. These texts will be utilized on our schools digital days, as students have the option to work from home on Fridays. We hope this endeavor will enable our student to become lifelong readers.
