Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

Hi, I am a fourth grade teacher at PS 202 in Brooklyn. I just started doing novels with my students. They just love reading a book as a class. I give written assignments based on a particular book we might be reading. So far we have read two books (Holes by Louis Sacher and Loser by Jerry Spinelli). After completing a novel, we get together to talk about the book. My students enjoy this. We have refreshments. Some students do presentations while others organize themselves in small discussion groups. I try to pick books that might be of interest to my students and that have literature circle questions attached. Right now, I would like to read Iggie's House by Judy Blume with them. I have one class copy of Iggie's House. I would like to have a class set(25 copies) of Iggie's House by Judy Blume. Having this class set would aid my student in becoming better readers. I am trying to instill in my students the joy of reading. Having these books will definitely support my endeavor. Thank you so much!
