I am fortunate to be the classroom teacher of a wonderful group of fourth-graders who eagerly enjoy reading books. We are a class of 27 students who love to book discussions.

This is a group of students who aim high and work hard. I am grateful to work at a school that has a book room. The problem is competing with the other classes to get books for my literature circles. Unfortunately, I do not have the personal budget to provide them with the variety of quality literature they so deserve.

Literature circles are student-centered book discussion groups. As the teacher observer, I've heard students share ideas, information and emotions they never would have with my old "teacher-asks-the-questions-students-give-the-answer" so-called "discussion" method. I have a classroom of students with vast different reading abilities and attitudes working together; helping each other and enjoying reading and talking about books.

I have pored over recommended book lists and have developed a wish list of books that I know will send my students through the roof! Included in this inventory are classics and award winners that focus on realistic fiction. The variety represented will help ensure that every student is engaged and excited about reading! Your generosity will help a phenomenal group of learners become even more excited about reading. Without question, this will be the gift that never stops giving. Our sincere thank you!
