Thank you so much for taking an interest in our students! Teaching sixth grade is such a fun, and developmental age for these students. They are voracious readers who will be reading non-fiction and fiction books. It is also a very formative year for them to develop so many skills! Feeling safe and comfortable in the learning environment is key to their success.
Our school is focused on teaching the whole child.
At our school we try to provide our students with a comfortable learning environment so they can learn and develop in a way that is conducive to their learning styles. We provide opportunities for the students to fine tune their collaboration skills in a working environment while also working on important academic skills.
My Project
Literature Circles are a major component to teaching middle school students to read, and work collaboratively together in a group. Not only does it allow the students to have a responsibility within a group, it allows them to see others’ perspectives of the story which ultimately will help the students reach a deeper understanding of what they have read.
Academic and positive social development is key in these formative years of middle school.
Literature circles are a great way to get different books into their hands on an age appropriate level. Having five students reading the same book will promote deeper thinking skills, responsibility to carry out a group specific role, and comprehension of the many skills we work on throughout the year.
