Seventh grade students are so unique. They are discovering who they are and how they fit into this world. Each day (and sometimes every hour) brings changes, challenges, and joys for them.
My students make up the most diverse school in our District.
In my classroom we work towards scholarly behavior and learning. While the students often laugh about that expression, they learn to take it seriously and, in turn, take their learning seriously. In CORE, I teach Honors students who love to read and write, English Language Learners who are learning how to manipulate and use the language, and students who are discovering the vastness of the world. Many of my students like to joke and make a play on words. They are very clever!
I am often asked if teaching ever gets dull. My common response is that it never does - each day students bring energy and enthusiasm. It is a privilege and responsibility to work with them each day.
My Project
With these new books, my students will have the opportunity to explore common human themes across cultures. These books will provide my students with a glimpse into life in Africa, China, Vietnam and the United States. Each of these books has a central character similar in age to my students. Students will have a choice of novels and work collaboratively in Literature Circles to explore theme, conflict, author's craft, character, and plot development.
With these new books, my students will glimpse into the lives of compelling characters from around the world who struggle with the same issues they do.
Thank you for providing books that will be a catalyst for literary discussions as well as conversations about what it means to be human.
