Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

As a first grade teacher in a low income, Latino school in Chicago, I find that I am often turning around with a wonderful lesson planned, but no materials to use. I am required to teach Math Trailblazers and it is a wonderful program for my young learners to develop conceptual skills in math and science. The units are often based on or at least supplemented by quality picture books. But alas, I was not supplied with said literature. Please help me to prepare my math curriculum for the following year with the picture books that are suggested for use. I know that concepts such as area, volume, symmetry, doubling and tallying would be much more accessible and enjoyable for my students to learn if I had the literature. Aside from utilizing this literature for math, a teacher always should be expanding and updating their classroom library so that students, especially from the community in which I teach, have free and easy access to excellent books!
