My students need books to engage their learning through the arts. By integrating literacy into art, their vocabulary will expand. Since I teach in a Title I school system, funding for the arts is very limited.
I only get to see see my students once every three weeks for thirty minutes at a time. They are excited about learning to use a variety of mediums in the art room. My students are eager and willing to experiment with different medias. My students are open minded to explore and experiment with mediums to see what they can create. They love learning and are willing to explore through the arts.
My students are passionate about learning and I see how the arts can be integrated in all other subject matters, such as reading.
Art ties into all other subjects, and giving children the opportunities to learn and explore different avenues of self expression is important to create individuals that think for themselves. Providing literature that will give students the tools to become critical thinkers will increase their ability to be problem solvers in life. My students have individual artistic abilities that need to be enhanced for further learning and excitement that builds confidence in learning. By providing literature in the art classroom, my students can excel in many areas of learning.
My Project
My students get art class once every three weeks for thirty minutes at a time, so giving them books to relate with their art projects will create a lasting impression while increasing their vocabulary. Integrating the arts with literature helps students gain a better understanding of skills and concepts that will help them develop higher order thinking and problem based learning that will be carried throughout their life.
The benefits of teaching art through literature is that the students' will have a comprehension of what they read in order to draw, paint or even describe what they just read.
This means that their overall academic performance can be enhanced through reading.
