My Students

My students are a group of highly energetic and motivated first graders. They love to learn and delight in sharing their knowledge with others. My students come from diverse backgrounds and our school is located in a high needs area. With that in mind, I want to give my students every advantage that I can to be successful and reach their full potential. We learn from one another on a daily basis and strive to be cognizant of what we can do to help others through learning and caring. Being able to fully meet the diverse learning styles in my classrooms is something that I strive for on a daily basis.

My Project

These materials will allow even my most hesitant readers to become engaged in reading if they can create a character from the story or an idea from the story out of LEGO bricks afterwards. Engagement would be high as would excitement for creativity and social/ emotional learning as well. I am excited about this project because it combines LEGO bricks with literacy and encourages students to be creative while retelling the story, a favorite part or an idea in their LEGO build. It’s a win-win for everyone! Hooray for engaging students in reading and speaking and listening skills as well, too!
