Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have worked at my school for 16 years and continue to be inspired by the enthusiasm and drive my students bring to class every day. They are enthusiastic biliterate learners, ready to be challenged. They bring positive energy into the classroom, which only pushes me to want to do more for them. Though many are from a low socioeconomic community, they enjoy learning and set goals for themselves. Many of my students are of immigrant parents who have limited education, but value their child's education.
My students are always up for the challenge and ready to explore new ideas, even if it means through online learning.
Even through all the changes we've had to encounter with online learning, my students continue to inspire me. I admire their willingness and positivity to adapt. During the past 8 weeks of online learning, they have tried their best to use Chromebooks, materials sent home, and Zoom.
My students have such amazing goals, and it makes me proud that at such a young age they begin to think about their future. My students want to further their education, be biliterate citizens, and pursue careers which will hopefully impact our lives in a positive manner.
My Project
As we are all trying to cope with this pandemic and stay safe, as an educator I am trying to keep the learning going and help my students feel safe. On March 13th, we were notified that we would be closing for two weeks. We scrambled, trying to give our students what we believed would be of benefit for this time. Little did we know that two weeks would turn into the end of the school year. We have been doing remote learning through video conferencing and online sites. It's wonderful to be able to connect with my students, and I would love to continue our book studies as we did in our classroom.
For these last six weeks of online learning, I would love to send my students these books and incorporate some fun and engaging lessons.
The dictionary and book will be of great benefit to my students. They will be able to check for understanding and improve their writing with the dictionary. The book will help expand their Spanish comprehension skills. This book covers literature and social-emotional learning. The main theme of the story is about the act of forgiving someone's mistake and gratitude. Great character traits to work on and make connections with.
