My students are inquisitive, curious, and studious individuals from diverse ethnic and linguistic backgrounds. They love learning about Spanish and Latin American culture and the Spanish language. Many of my students are self-starters and enjoy researching and learning independently inside and outside the classroom. They crave engaging learning materials like magazines and contemporary picture books, poetry, and novels to expand their vocabulary knowledge. Such texts help them understand the mechanics and application of grammar rules.
These students appreciate authentic resources by native Spanish speakers that demonstrate the beauty of the Spanish language.
Such writings expand their world views and expose them to cultures, customs, and identities that differ from their own, while making them understand that all people have shared experiences, emotions, and human trials.
These graphic novels, pictures books, and poetry anthologies will expose my students to some of the greatest contemporary Spanish authors of our time such as Georgina Lázaro León, Lucia Serrano, and César Arístides. Students will learn about the rich cultural traditions and customs celebrated throughout the Spanish speaking world through "El chupacabras" and "El mejor regalo del mundo: la leyenda de la Vieja Belén." Additionally they will read about major historical figures that helped shape various Latin American nations. The book bins will help to organize and categorize these resources according to genre, so that students can easily select what they would like to read based upon their personal interests. These bins will also help protect the covers and spines of the books so that they may be enjoyed for years to come.
Students will easily increase their vocabulary acquisition and improve their reading comprehension in Spanish while being entertained by lively and witty stories.
Students will travel to unfamiliar places through the power of beautiful narratives.
