Help me give my students a ChiButtons button press and materials so that they can celebrate their reading and encourage everyone else to read too!
This project expired on January 14, 2019.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
Just outside St Paul, Minnesota is Roseville - an amazing city that has embraced all its families and believes that all students need to become lifelong readers. My students are part of a new group called The Lit Society that partners with the local library to run both the summer reading program and a new literary Merit Badge program for all high school students.
We want to show the world that teen reading is not a lost art and that it is something that everyone needs to celebrate.
Remember those little buttons you collected in the 80s and used to decorate your backpack and jean jacket? Teenagers still love collecting these! And my students want to harness that spirit to motivate their peers to take part in a new reading project called Literary Merit Badges. By using a ChiButtons press to make buttons students can earn and collect, they will encourage others to read and get prepared for college level reading.
Just like Scouts complete projects to earn badges, my students will be part of a school-wide project to celebrate reading in all its glories.
Food, travel, poetry, biography, drama, comedy, environmentalism, fiction, film, social justice, and politics are just a few of the reading projects my students need to develop the broad literacy necessary for success in college!
