Help me give my students lessons through literacy! I want to have a classroom library focused on learning lessons about social skills and holiday celebrations.
I have the best and most loving students. My students come from low income and below the poverty level homes. They often come to school unprepared for the day. They often come to school hungry and without supplies. My room is their safe place where they can forget any troubles that they may have at home. That being said, I have a tough time keeping their attention. I have many students that have ADHD or ADD. They often need to move during instruction to be able to learn. I have to provide most supplies to the classroom because my students are not financially able to. I love all my students and want to provide that fun, energetic, and loving environment for them.
My Project
My students have a special time in the day set aside for social skills lesson, the set curriculum can be dry. My hope is to spice up their excitement to learn about social skills with these book.
These books would be great literary lessons, where students get to learn life skills along with practice their reading skills.
The other set of books are about holidays and celebrations. These again would be great additions to any social studies or literature assignment to learn more about traditions. Any time one of these books can be picked up, they will extend a lesson to a student that will grow them as a person and practice their reading skills.
