The cost of books to teach literary elements is $174, including shipping and <a target="new" href="http://www.donorschoose.org/html/fulfillment.htm" onclick="g_openWindow('http://www.donorschoose.org/html/fulfillment.htm', 300, 800, 'fulfillwindow');return false;">fulfillment</a>.
I would like to submit a proposal to receive some much needed materials for teaching Literary Elements. This is perhaps the hardest thing for children to identify with when reading. It is one thing for a child to read a story, but to fully understand the story, and all of the elements that make up the story is quite another.
Understanding characters, figurative language, foreshadowing, flashbacks, plot, point of view, setting, mood, and tone will bring a new sense of appreciation for literature. Children will enjoy reading if they have a better understanding of what they are reading.
These materials will allow me to guide my students to a better understanding of what they are reading. I am continuously looking for ways to make reading more meaningful, and I feel these materials will be of great benefit.
I will be team teaching 4th grade with approximately 50 students. I will teach 2 blocks of reading and 1 block of writing. I will also have a large number of ELL (English Language Learners). Our school is located in rural Pender County, North Carolina. Over half of our school receives free or reduced lunch, and many of the students are from single parent households.
The materials I wish to receive consist of a set of 48 books. There are six books dedicated to each of the elements of literature. The books consist of stories, poems, or plays that are perfect for teaching each specific element.
I am also asking for two additional resources dedicated to nonfiction reading. These guides will give me and my students a variety of high interest passages that I am sure will hold the students attention and provide them the practice they need to better understand the elements of nonfiction reading.
These materials would be of great benefit for my students. They would be used year after year. These are wonderful comprehensive resources that I know would make a big difference in the learning practices of my students.
